Kinematic Mount with Axis Aligned
The Kinematic Mount with Axis Aligned are best suited for quick and easy integration on breadboard. The mount can be directly fixed onto breadboard on a post. It does not require any Post Holder and Post Base to offset the front of the mirror from the mounting position.
The mounting hole for this kinematic mount is so designed that, when mounted on a bread board or a post, a beam incident on a mirror has axis of the beam and the mirror coincident, for AOI of 45 degrees. This ensures the beam covers maximum aperture of the mirror. Such kinematic mounts are easy to align. This mount has two types of drive option, either micrometre drive or lead screw drive. The front plate of the kinematic mount is pre-loaded by high tension spring coils, ensuring tight kinematic fit. The mount is available in two screw and three screw variant.The three screw variant allows precision translation of the mirror front surface to precisely align, mirror axis with beam axis.
Application Notes
- Fix the mount on a post or directly on a bread board, the front surface of the mirror or beam splitter shall be concentric with the center of the beam incident at AOI 45 degrees. This avoids mounting on a post base and to provide an offset intuitively, to correct for the thickness of the mount.
- Since these mounts are almost pre-aligned, the range offered is lesser than the conventional kinematic mounts.
- Disadvantage of a Kinematic Mount is that the central axis translates when tip/ tilt is operated. This translation may be compensated by using a three screw kinematic mount.

Spring loaded nylon tipped M6 screw for larger diameters.
Tips for Use
- Align the front and the back plate using a vernier calipers.
- Optics shall be mounted from the back side. Front surface of the optics shall rest on the retainer. Use grub screws to secure the optics.
- Fix the mount on a bread board or a post. Align it at 45 degrees to the incident beam. The center of the beam shall fall on the center of the optics. Then the mirror is approximately aligned at 45 degrees.
- Using two fine adjustment screws align the optics precisely.
- Translation due to kinematic motion may occur. If that is undesirable, use a three actuator kinematic mount for precise alignment. This shall align the angle precisely. Also axis of optics and axis of the incident beam may be made to coincide.
