Kinematic Mount for Rectangular Optics
The Rectangular Optics Kinematic Mounts are used for mounting rectangular mirrors, beam-splitters or square filters. This mount has a resting flange to stop the mirror and secure the mirror at edge contact by using two spring-loaded nylon tipped M3 set screw. Our Rectangular Optics Kinematic Mounts have two types of drive option either micrometre drive or lead screw drive. The front plate of the Rectangular Optics Kinematic Mount is pre-loaded by two high tension spring coil, ensuring tight kinematic fit.
These mounts have two variant, i.e. two lead screws for precise tip-tilt adjustment and three adjustment screw kinematic mounts for tip- tilt and translation adjustment. The mount can be used in either horizontal and vertical direction for mounting.
The mount is designed considering 45 degree AOI. It can be mounted to deviate a horizontal beam in horizontal as well as vertical plane.
Application Notes
- Kinematic mount offers provision for easy alignment of mirrors, beam splitters, filters. The optics when tip/ tilted shall steer/ align the beam.
- The mount design considers using a beam splitter at AOI 45 degrees. The transmitted beam shall not interfere with the thumb screws or the back plate.
- The mount is used in 'landscape mode' to deviate beam in horizontal plane. It may be used in 'portrait mode' to steer beam in vertical plane.
- The mount may be used for holding square shaped filters (typically at normal AOI) as well.
- Major disadvantage of Kinematic Mount is that the center of the mirror translates along the axis, when the mirror is tipped or tilt. This translates center of axis a bit. Use three actuator rectangular kinematics mount to correct for the drift, thus maintaining position of the reflecting plane.

Tips for Use
- Kinematic mounts have M6 tapped hole on the pack plate for post or base mounting.
- It is recommended to use Post diameter 25mm for beams above 50mm, for better stability.
- Use Base Plates for optics diameter above 100mm.
- Mount the mirror using grub screw, very carefully. Undue tightening may deform the mirror. Mounting stresses may introduce aberrations in the reflected beam of a mirror. Mounting stresses cause aberration due to photo-elasticity in case of beam splitters and filters.
- Select suitable actuator. Use micrometer, when visual aid is required. Lead screws with 0.5mm pitch are cost effective and rugged. Lead screws with 80TPI are available with thimble. Lead screws with 100 TPI are usually operated with Hex wrench. Use 100 TPI lead screws only when high sensitivity is required.
- Large size optics mounts usually have high sensitivity. It is recommended to use 0.5mm pitch or 80TPI lead screws, with base mounting, for greater stability.
